Irene Kovalik » About the Artist
A Santa Barbara resident of fifteen years, Irina was born in Odessa, Ukraine. Her love of art was evident from early childhood. She was first recognized at school for her ability to paint portraits and landscapes, and was accepted to Odessa School of Arts. Later on, Irina got her education in French Language and Literature at Odessa University and after immigrating to the United States, earned her Master's Degree at UCLA.
The influence of the French and Russian Impressionists is quite evident. Santa Barbara's natural beauty serves to inspire her use of shapes and bright colors. The intent of Irina's artistic expression is to elicit the emotions one might have by listening to music or reading a novel, simply by gazing at her paintings.
Irene studied under well renown master Jove Wang.
